Prashant Sharma, a registered Indian Patent Agent, conducted a workshop on Intellectual Property Rights at Shri Maharaja Rajendrasinhji Arts and Science College in Rajpipla, Gujarat, on 7th Sept, 2026. This one-day session focused on Patent Awareness and Patentability Criteria and was organised under the aegis of the Gujarat Council on Science and Technology, Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat. Mr Sharma is an empanelled IP Mitra under the Scheme for Intellectual Property Rights and a member of the WIPO eTISC and WIPO ADR Young community.
The workshop covered the fundamentals of patents, trademarks, copyrights, industrial designs, and geographical indications. Sharma explained the three key patentability criteria: novelty, inventive step, and industrial applicability. He also discussed non-patentable inventions under the Patents Act, 1970. The session included practical examples, such as the intellectual property layers in a packet of Tata Salt and the various IP rights embedded in a smartphone. Attendees learned about the importance of protecting traditional knowledge and plant varieties.
Mihirsinh Zala, District Coordinator of the Narmada Lok Vigyan Kendra, Rajpipla, invited Mr Sharma. Dr Shaileshkumar G. Mangrola, Principal of the college, welcomed Mr Sharma at the venue.
