ResilientAfrica Network and Makerere University Win Contest Targetting Ebola

ResilientAfrica Network and Makerere University Win Contest Targetting Ebola

Submitted by eTISC on

The ResilientAfrica Network, a partnership of 20 African universities, and Makerere University in Uganda have won a design award under Fighting Ebola: A Grand Challenge for Development for their next generation ergonomic tent design. The design can be used for mobile treatment units and improves on existing designs by providing better heat circulation, important for Ebola workers required to wear heavy protective clothing for many hours at a time.

In this context, Prof. Mukadasi Buyinza, Director, Directorate of Research and Graduate Training at Makerere University, is quoted by Intellectual Property Watch as saying, "the university has the Intellectual Property Management Policy in place to galvanise innovation and creativity among both staff and students for the public good, and when commercialised, generate income for the innovator and the university."

More information about ResilientAfrican Network and Makerere University's success can be found on the Makerere University website and on Intellectual Property Watch.
