Shri M. R. Arts and Science College in Rajpipla, Gujarat, hosted a one-day seminar titled "Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), Patent Awareness and Patentability Criteria" on September 7, 2026. The educational event was jointly organised by the Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST), Gandhinagar, the Manthan Narmada Lok Vigyan Kendra, Rajpipla, and the Innovation Club of Shri M. R. Arts and Science College. WIPO eTISC member Prashant Sharma, who serves as a registered Indian patent agent and patent consultant at the Software Freedom Law Centre (SFLC.in), attended as the designated expert resource person and key speaker.
During the lecture, Mr Sharma provided practical guidance on the importance of academic research, legal mechanisms for safeguarding new ideas, step-by-step procedures for patent filing, and the key evaluation metrics for patentability criteria. The objective of the workshop was to foster research activities among students and inform them about the legal protections available for technical innovations. The seminar was attended by college faculty members and students, alongside guest dignitaries including District IP Officer Bhumikaben Vasava, District Science Communicator Kalpanaben, and Sonalben.
The program included a recognition ceremony where Principal Dr S. G. Mangrola congratulated Dr Himani Mangrola for her achievement in filing two new patent applications. An IPR quiz competition was also conducted for second-year Bachelor of Science (S.Y. B.Sc.) students to evaluate knowledge absorption. The top three positions were awarded to Diya Satishbhai Vasava, Nidhi Vijaybhai Vasava, and Harfida Ramanbhai Vasava, who were presented with certificates and prizes. The overall event was coordinated by Dr Dineshkumar Prajapati, Coordinator of the College Innovation Club.
