The Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO (63rd session), which started on July 14, ended today, July 22 at the WIPO Headquarters in Geneva.
Highlights of the event included:
- July 19, 2022: First-Ever WIPO Global Awards - WIPO’s new Global Awards program, which recognizes exceptional enterprises and individuals using intellectual property (IP) to make a positive impact at home and abroad, celebrated small and medium-sized enterprises from China, Japan, the Netherlands and Singapore who are the first-ever winners of the prestigious Award. The Director General, Mr. Daren Tang, handed trophies to representatives of the five winners (in alphabetical order): Hydraloop from the Netherlands, Lucence of Singapore, Raycan from China, Shylon from China, and Japan-based Splink.

- July 21, 2022: WIPO Member States Approving Diplomatic Conferences for Two Proposed Accords - the first proposed Diplomatic Conference is expected to focus on an international agreement on the protection of designs across borders and the second, a pact related to intellectual property (IP), genetic resources and traditional knowledge associated with genetic resources. Following years of negotiations, the WIPO General Assembly decided to move to diplomatic conferences - or dedicated negotiating rounds where agreements may be concluded - no later than 2024, for each of the draft agreements.
