WIPO Organized a Virtual Workshop On “Using Patent System By Women Inventors” (1-2, June, 2021) For Women Inventors And Entrepreneurs.

“In Pakistan, women constitute almost 49% of total population and it is of paramount importance to tape the innovative potential of male and female inventors alike in order to solve the pressing problems faced by Pakistan” with these words Mr. Meesaq Arif, Executive Directive, IPO Pakistan reiterated IPO’s commitment to continue working with WIPO to enhance the role of women inventors in utilization of IP system. He was addressing to the participants of two day virtual workshop on “Using patent system by women inventors” on 1-2, June, 2021. Ms.Tamara Nanayakkara, Counsellor, IP for Business Division, highlighted the WIPO’s initiatives to enhance women representation in IP system, innovation and entrepreneurship in developing countries. Moreover, representatives from Oman and Uganda shared their policies to close gender gap in exploitation of IP system in their countries. In Pakistan, TISC network would be further strengthened to provide support to women inventors and entrepreneurs in IP filing and commercialization.  Currently, TISCs have been established in four women only universities.  In future, gender perspective would be taken in to account to plan further initiatives from TISC platform in Pakistan. 

The workshop was attended by large number of women inventors from Pakistan, Uganda and Oman. Ms. Saima Kanwal, National Coordinator of TISCs and Faryal Javed, TISC Officer briefed the participants regarding patent filing and grant procedure and support mechanism available for women inventors in Pakistan.
