Building up on the report published in 2022, a new report on COVID-19 Vaccines and Therapeutics was launched on April 20, 2023 at WIPO headquarters, Geneva. The Assistant Director General Marco Aléman opened the event with a few remarks highlighting the importance of the creating knowledge in the area of COVID-19 to help fight such pandemics. This was followed by a presentation of the results of the report by Direct Andrew Czajkowski.
A lively panel discussion followed this, moderated by Senior Director Alejandro Roca Campaña. The panelists, who included representatives from the World Trade Organization (WTO), World Health Organization (WHO), Medicines Patent Pool (MPP), Chemical Abstracts Services (CAS), the Global Challenges Division, WIPO, talked about how the pandemic accelerated innovation and the partnerships to rapidly develop vaccines and therapeutics.
